All‑on‑4® is a full‑arch implant system designed to replace an entire upper or lower set of teeth using four to six implants. Two implants are placed vertically in the front of the jaw, and two are placed at an angle in the back to maximize bone support.

Good overall health is important, though most well-managed conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure do not automatically disqualify a patient. Non-smokers tend to achieve the best outcomes, and patients who smoke are encouraged to stop temporarily around the time of surgery to support healing. Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation where Dr. Cherry reviews your medical and dental history, evaluates your oral health, and uses 3D imaging to assess available bone and design a precise surgical plan. Sedation options, the need for any extractions, and your restoration goals are all discussed at this stage so you know exactly what to expect before the day of your procedure.

On the day of surgery, any remaining failing teeth are removed and four to six implants are placed at strategic angles into the available bone — maximizing support while minimizing the need for bone grafting. A custom temporary prosthesis is then attached the same day, giving you immediate function and a complete smile before you leave the office.

Over the following months, the implants integrate with the surrounding bone, creating a stable, permanent foundation. Once healing is confirmed, your final custom restoration is placed — designed to match the natural look, feel, and function of real teeth. Over-the-counter pain relievers may be taken to manage any discomfort after the anesthetic has worn off, and ice packs may be intermittently applied to the cheeks to minimize any pain or swelling.

Many patients begin to feel better within a few days. Even though patients will have a temporary prosthetic in place, a soft food diet is recommended until the implants have fully integrated and stabilized. Foods that require little to no chewing, such as mashed potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal, or pureed soups, are good options to start. Patients can slowly incorporate steamed vegetables, well-cooked pasta, and other soft foods as they heal.

Patients may be able to resume a normal diet with some limitations more quickly with the All-on-4® treatment than with traditional implants because the impact of biting and chewing is distributed across all of the implants rather than on a single implant.
