Anesthesia plays a key role in ensuring your oral surgery experience is safe, comfortable, and stress‑free. Whether you’re undergoing a simple procedure or a more complex surgery, we offer multiple anesthesia options tailored to your needs, medical history, and comfort level.

What Is Anesthesia in Oral Surgery?

Anesthesia refers to the medications and techniques used to control pain, reduce anxiety, and create a calm, relaxed experience during treatment. Depending on the procedure and your preferences, anesthesia may keep you fully awake, lightly sedated, or fully asleep.
Dr. Cherry has extensive hospital‑based anesthesia training, allowing him to safely administer a full range of in‑office anesthesia options.

Types of Anesthesia We Offer

Local Anesthesia numbs the surgical area so you feel pressure and movement but not pain. You remain fully awake and aware throughout, making it ideal for minor procedures or as a foundation for other sedation options.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) is a mild inhaled sedative delivered through a small nasal mask. It creates a warm, relaxed sensation, works quickly, and wears off rapidly — most patients are able to drive themselves home afterward.
IV Sedation & General Anesthesia delivers medication through a small IV line, producing a deep "twilight sleep" or complete unconsciousness. Your breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure are continuously monitored throughout. You may have little or no memory of the procedure, and a responsible driver is required for the trip home.
Dr. Cherry will recommend the right option based on your procedure, medical history, and personal comfort level.

How Anesthesia Works

Before your procedure, Dr. Cherry reviews your medical history, current medications, allergies, and any prior reactions to anesthesia to build a safe, personalized plan. On the day of surgery, your chosen anesthesia is administered — whether by injection, inhalation, or IV — and your vital signs are monitored continuously throughout. Once the procedure is complete, you'll recover in our office until you're stable and comfortable. A responsible adult must be available to drive you home if IV sedation or general anesthesia was used, and you should plan to rest for the remainder of the day. A follow-up call or visit confirms your recovery is on track.
